Eau de Toilette vs. Eau de Parfum

Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette are names you may have heard or seen a lot of in the world of perfumery. But what are they? What is the difference between them?

In this article, we will give you a thorough explanation about each of them and the difference between them.

So let’s dive in.

Our blog post will cover the following topics:

Perfume Oil:

This is the main substance in the perfume. A perfumer may sometimes mix more than 100 different ingredients to form the pure perfume, or what we call the “Perfume Oil”.

Intensity Difference:

Simply speaking, the main difference between Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum is the intensity of the fragrance, or in other words, the amount of the perfume oil each contains.

Additionally, alcohol is commonly added to the perfume oil as a solvent and is often mixed with a small amount of water.

Eau de Toilette:

This is common for day to day use. Eau de Toilette is the lighter formula of the fragrance. On average, an Eau de Toilette contains between 5% to 10% of the perfume oil. The fragrance lasts for a couple of hours during the day.

Eau de Parfum:

This is the more intense and luxurious formula of the fragrance. On average, an Eau de Parfum contains between 10% to 20% of the perfume oil. The fragrance may last the whole day.
